The European Commission has announced a €120 million humanitarian aid package for Latin America and the Caribbean in 2025. This funding aims to support vulnerable populations affected by recent natural disasters and armed conflicts, as well as enhance disaster preparedness in the region.

In Venezuela, €38 million will be allocated to humanitarian organizations focusing on the ongoing crisis. The funds will be directed towards protecting vulnerable groups, improving health, nutrition, and education services.

Colombia will receive €21 million to assist those displaced by armed conflicts and address migration impacts in border areas with Venezuela. Key assistance areas include food security, livelihoods, water, sanitation, health, and education.

An additional €10 million is designated for South America to support forcibly displaced individuals at risk. Ecuador is set to receive €2 million from this allocation to help those affected by rising violence.

Central America is earmarked for €10 million targeting violence-affected populations and food insecurity issues. An extra €10.1 million will go towards disaster preparedness efforts.

In the Caribbean region, Haiti is set to receive over €18 million aimed at tackling its humanitarian crisis exacerbated by escalating gang violence. Other Caribbean nations will benefit from over €8.5 million primarily dedicated to disaster preparedness initiatives.

This announcement coincides with the first anniversary of a Memorandum of Understanding on disaster risk management between the EU and Latin American and Caribbean regions. Signed in Barbados last year, this agreement enhances cooperation in managing disaster risks among involved parties such as the Caribbean Disaster Emergency Management Agency (CDEMA), Coordination Centre for the Prevention of Disasters in Central America and Dominican Republic (CEPREDENAC), General Secretariat of the Andean Community (SGCAN), Chile, Cuba, and Mexico.

Eva Hrncirova serves as a spokesperson while Daniel Puglisi acts as a press officer for further inquiries regarding this aid initiative.
