Rapporteur Axel Voss will brief journalists on March 10 at 15:00 regarding the European Parliament’s proposals to protect creative production in the European Union as artificial intelligence technologies advance.

Earlier that day, members of the European Parliament are expected to outline principles designed to safeguard copyrighted content from being freely used in generative AI training. Lawmakers are seeking measures that would require AI providers to clearly acknowledge any protected content they use for training their tools and ensure right-holders receive fair compensation. The draft report, which is scheduled for a vote at noon, proposes giving right-holders the ability to prevent their protected content from being used for AI training. It also states that training AI with content generated within the EU should comply with EU laws. The report addresses concerns about protecting the press sector and highlights risks generative AI poses to media pluralism.

Legal Affairs Committee rapporteur Axel Voss (EPP, DE) will provide further details after the plenary vote and answer questions about subsequent steps.

The press conference will take place on Tuesday, March 10, from 15:00 to 15:30 CET at the European Parliament in Strasbourg, specifically in the Daphne Caruana Galizia press conference room (Weiss N -1/201). Journalists can attend either in person or remotely via Interactio, with interpretation available in English, French, German, Spanish, Italian and Polish. Accredited journalists who wish to participate actively and ask questions remotely may do so using Interactio. The event will be streamed live and later made available on demand through Parliament’s Multimedia Centre website.

Journalists planning to use Interactio are advised that it is supported only on iPad (using Safari) or Mac/Windows computers (using Google Chrome). Participants should enter their name and media organization when connecting. For improved sound quality during interventions, headphones and a microphone are recommended. Interpretation services require video participation. Those unfamiliar with Interactio are encouraged to connect 30 minutes before the start time for a connection test; IT assistance is available if needed.

Additional instructions include opening the chat window upon connection to view service messages. More information can be found by reviewing connection guidelines and recommendations for remote speakers.
