On Tuesday, the European Parliament approved Joëlle Elvinger from Luxembourg and Stef Blok from the Netherlands for second terms as members of the European Court of Auditors (ECA). Elvinger received 530 votes in favor, 41 against, and 70 abstentions. She has been a member of the ECA since 2020 and previously worked as a lawyer and politician in Luxembourg.
Blok, who has served in several ministerial roles in the Netherlands and joined the ECA in 2022, was supported by 462 votes to 129 with 25 abstentions.
Both candidates had earlier secured favorable opinions from the Budgetary Control Committee on July 15, following hearings held that day.
The final decision on their appointments will be made by EU member states meeting in the Council. According to the EU Treaty, each member state proposes one candidate for the ECA. The Council of the EU adopts a list of members for six-year terms after consulting with Parliament.
