The European Parliament has opened a permanent office in Chișinău, Moldova, marking an effort to strengthen ties with the country and the broader Eastern Partnership region. The move comes amid ongoing geopolitical tensions and renewed focus on the potential enlargement of the European Union.
European Parliament President Roberta Metsola led the inauguration of the new office. She stated, “The European Parliament stands firmly with Moldova and with all our Eastern Partnership friends. Today we open this office in Chișinău as a tangible expression of our belief in Moldova’s future within the European family.”
According to a report adopted by Members of the European Parliament in June 2025, relations between the EU and Moldova have entered a new stage. This phase is marked by closer cooperation and efforts by Moldovan authorities to align national legislation with EU standards.
The new office aims to promote the positions and activities of the European Parliament. It will also support democratic development and institutional reforms in Moldova and neighboring countries. In addition, it will help organize official visits by Members of the European Parliament (MEPs) and enhance collaboration with other EU institutions, international organizations, and local civil society groups.
The initiative is intended to foster stronger connections between the EU and its neighbors in Eastern Europe.
