Spokespersons for the European Parliament and its political groups will provide a briefing on Friday, 5 September at 11.00 regarding the upcoming plenary session scheduled for 8 to 11 September. The briefing will take place in the Anna Politkovskaya press room in Brussels and will also be accessible via Interactio.

The agenda for next week’s plenary includes several debates and addresses. Commission President von der Leyen is set to deliver the State of the European Union address, followed by a debate with Members of the European Parliament (MEPs). Discussions are also planned on the EU-US trade deal and prospects for further EU trade agreements.

EU foreign policy chief Kaja Kallas will participate in two debates: one focused on security guarantees, peace efforts for Ukraine, and the country’s progress toward EU membership—with a vote expected on this matter—and another addressing Gaza, famine prevention, hostage releases, and steps toward a two-state solution. This latter debate will conclude with a vote on an accompanying resolution.

Moldovan President Maia Sandu will address MEPs regarding Russian hybrid threats and interference in Moldova, followed by a debate and a vote on a related resolution. Other topics include discussions about taxing large digital platforms, revision of the package travel directive (with both debate and vote), as well as responses to summer wildfires and heatwaves aimed at strengthening EU aid and preparedness.

Interpretation services during the press briefing will be provided in English and French. The event can be followed live from 11.00 through attendance at Parliament’s Anna Politkovskaya press room or via webstreaming through Parliament’s online channels and EbS.

Journalists who wish to ask questions during the briefing are advised to connect using Interactio (https://ep.interactio.eu/link/pressconfp1611820). Interactio supports iPads (Safari browser) as well as Mac/Windows computers (Google Chrome browser). Journalists who have not previously used Interactio should join 30 minutes early to test their connection; IT assistance is available if needed. When joining, participants should enter their name and media outlet into the designated fields, use headphones and a microphone for sound quality, open the chat window upon connecting to view service messages, and note that interpretation is only possible for video questions.
