The European Parliament is set to vote on a resolution addressing the crisis in Gaza. The motion, titled “Gaza at breaking point: EU action to combat famine, the urgent need to release hostages and move towards a two-state solution,” follows a debate with EU diplomacy chief Kaja Kallas that took place earlier in the week.
In another agenda item, Members of the European Parliament (MEPs) will hold an extraordinary plenary debate about recent Russian drone incursions into Polish airspace. The session aims to discuss how the European Union can express solidarity with Poland after these incidents.
MEPs will also discuss measures for coping with heatwaves. Commissioner Piotr Serafin will join the debate focused on strategies to address the causes of heatwaves and policies related to housing and health.
A separate discussion with Commissioner Serafin will consider ways to simplify and streamline rules governing the EU’s single market. This debate seeks methods for improving competitiveness within the bloc.
Additionally, MEPs will examine the future of academic alliances in Europe during a debate on the European Universities initiative. A vote on this resolution is scheduled for noon.
Later in the day, attention will turn to dementia strategy as MEPs and Commissioner Serafin discuss approaches for addressing Alzheimer’s disease and other forms of dementia across Europe.
At noon, several votes are scheduled. These include new regulations on package travel, a report reviewing the 2024 European elections, resolutions concerning EU citizens detained in occupied areas of Cyprus, political prisoner Victoire Ingabire in Rwanda, Irish national Abdoul Aziz Goma who is detained in Togo, and developments following recent terrorist attacks in Colombia.
Live coverage of these debates and votes is available via Parliament’s webstreaming site and EbS+ platforms.
