On Thursday, Members of the European Parliament (MEPs) are scheduled to vote on a resolution outlining the European Union’s stance on peace negotiations for Ukraine. The draft resolution, discussed in a debate held the previous day, addresses concerns over what it describes as “US ambivalence towards Ukraine as detrimental to peace” and asserts that “nothing must be decided about Ukraine without Ukraine, and nothing about Europe without Europe.” The text also maintains that lasting peace requires an effective ceasefire and reiterates the EU’s position that it will not recognize any occupied Ukrainian territory as Russian.
Later in the morning, starting at 10:00, MEPs will engage with Commissioner Wopke Hoekstra to discuss the outcomes of the 30th United Nations climate conference (COP30), which took place from November 10 to 21 in Belém, Brazil.
In another session beginning at 9:00, MEPs will assess recent developments related to sustainable aviation and maritime fuels alongside Commissioner Maria Luís Albuquerque. This follows the European Commission’s adoption of a sustainable transport investment plan on November 5. The plan emphasizes renewable and low-carbon fuels for aviation and waterborne transport.
The afternoon agenda includes a debate with Commissioner Albuquerque concerning fur farming practices and regulations around marketing farmed fur products. This discussion is set to begin at 15:00.
At noon, Parliament will vote on several proposals including new transparency requirements for interest representation activities by non-EU countries; recommendations aimed at improving inclusion for persons with disabilities; an objection regarding financing of Tanzania’s 2025 action plan; motions addressing post-election violence and human rights in Tanzania; repression of Baha’i communities in Iran; rule of law issues in Tunisia; resolutions on war and humanitarian conditions in Sudan; political developments and humanitarian concerns involving Rohingya in Myanmar; as well as a report reviewing implementation of the EU-UK Trade and Cooperation Agreement.
Live coverage of these sessions is available through Parliament’s webstreaming platform and EbS+.
