The European Parliament is scheduled to vote on two motions of censure against the European Commission at noon today. For either motion to pass, it must receive a two-thirds majority of votes cast and represent a majority of the Parliament’s members. Earlier this week, Commission President Ursula von der Leyen addressed the plenary in a debate related to these motions.
Also on the agenda is a resolution addressing recent Russian violations of EU airspace and drone attacks on EU territory. The draft resolution calls for coordinated action, stronger defense measures, and additional sanctions in response to what it describes as provocations targeting EU security and infrastructure. It also urges increased cooperation with NATO and Ukraine.
In other business, Members of the European Parliament (MEPs) will discuss a roadmap for women’s rights with Commissioner Jessika Roswall, including principles for achieving gender equality. A vote on this resolution will take place at noon.
The session also includes consideration of a report from the Committee on Petitions reviewing its activities in 2024, followed by a discussion with Commissioner Roswall and an expected vote.
To mark World Mental Health Day tomorrow, MEPs and Commissioner Roswall will discuss how socio-economic factors affect mental well-being during a debate beginning at approximately 11:00.
Other votes scheduled include:
– A report on the situation in Afghanistan, particularly concerning women after recent earthquakes.
– Motions regarding the detention of EU citizens Javier Marañón Montero and David Rodríguez Ballesta in Equatorial Guinea.
– Motions on the humanitarian and security situation in Haiti amid increasing criminal gang activity and recent violence in Cabaret.
– Recognition of the tenth anniversary of Swedish publisher Gui Minhai’s detention in China.
– The final text resulting from interinstitutional negotiations on revising the European Works Councils Directive.
– Proposals aimed at simplifying the EU’s tax system.
