On June 13 and 14, Strasbourg will host EYE2025, the European Youth Event, where approximately 8,500 young individuals aged 16 to 30 from across the globe will engage in activities focused on Europe’s future.

The event will commence with an opening by Parliament Vice-president Sabine Verheyen of the EPP from Germany on Friday at 10:00 in the EYE village. Nicolae Ştefănuță, a Vice-president from the Greens/EFA of Romania, is scheduled to participate in a session about the upcoming long-term budget on Saturday at 15:00. The closing session featuring Vice-president Pina Picierno from S&D of Italy will occur on Saturday at 16:45.

Throughout these two days, attendees can join panel discussions involving Members of the European Parliament (MEPs), EU decision-makers, experts, activists, and content creators. Topics for debate between MEPs and young participants include climate justice, future skills, the EU’s next long-term budget, freedom of speech and media among others.

Glenn Micallef, Commissioner for Intergenerational Fairness, Youth, Culture and Sport, will lead a Youth Policy Dialogue on Friday at 11:00 and participate in a discussion on youth mental health later that day. Henna Virkkunen, Executive Vice-President of the Commission, will contribute to a conversation about technology’s role in strengthening democracy on Friday at 15:00.

Guest speakers include democracy activist Daria Navalnya; Chief Tau Metuktire of the Kayapo Amazonian tribe; and Jeanne Barseghian, Mayor of Strasbourg.

The program also features workshops addressing issues relevant to young people such as disinformation, housing and migration. Participants can choose from over 450 activities including quizzes, tours, artistic performances, storytelling workshops and concerts during this sixth edition of EYE.

All sessions held in the hemicycle will be streamed live via the EYE2025 Facebook page and Parliament’s Multimedia Centre. Additional information regarding schedules, speakers and activities is available on the European Youth Event website.

A press briefing with Vice-president Verheyen concerning media freedom in the EU is scheduled for Friday at 16:30 in the Daphne Caruana Galizia press conference room. It can be followed live online.
